A Scout Is Reverent
GOD'S LITTLE PROMISES

Before you face the challenges of your day, face the
day with God - He will help you to meet those
challenges.
"He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High
shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.  I will
say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress; my
God, in Him I will trust." Psalm 91:1-2

A dewdrop acts out the will of God as surely as the
thunderstorm. God cares little about size; He cares
immensely about service.
"For the mountains shall depart and the hills be
removed, but My kindness shall not depart from you..."
 Isaiah 54:10

It is better to wear out doing good rather than to rust
out doing little or nothing.
"I will instruct you and teach you in the way you
should go; I will guide you with My eye." Psalm 32:8

God wants to be more than a 911 number.  Call on
Him at all times...not just in a crisis.
"He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be
with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him."
Psalm 91:15

God is truly amazing.  He chooses to sit with us in the
kitchen of life rather than in the parlor, because He
wants to know us from the inside out.
"For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that
which was lost." Luke 19:10
GOD'S LITTLE PROMISES

God knows you, loves you, and recognizes you without
a name tag.  Have you extended the same courtesy to
him?
"You are worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honor
and power; for You created all things, and by Your
will they exist and were created.  Revelations 4:11

An apple will always be an apple and never an orange.
Only you - God's special creature - are given the
chance to change your soul.
"For God so loved the world, that He gave His only
begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not
perish but have everlasting life.  John 3:16

To live a good life, you need to be a good person.  To
live a great life, you must serve a great God.
"Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you
great and mighty things, which you do not know."
Jeremiah 33:3

The secret to being a generous Christian in pubic is
being a committed disciple in secret.
"But you, when you pray, go into your room, and
when you have shut your door, pray to your Father
who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in
secret will reward you openly."  Matthew 6:6

Even the youngest child can reach up and grasp the
loving hand of God.
"I love those who love me, and those who seek me
diligently will find me. Proverbs 8:17
Twinkies and Root Beer

A little boy wanted to meet God. He knew it was a long trip to where God lived, so he packed his suitcase with Twinkies and a six-pack
of Root beer and he started his journey.

When he had gone about three blocks, he met an old man. He was sitting in the park just staring at some pigeons. The boy sat down
next to him and opened his suitcase. He was about to take a drink from his root beer when he noticed that the old man looked hungry,
so he offered him a Twinkie.

He gratefully accepted it and smiled at him. His smile was so pleasant that the boy wanted to see it again, so he offered him a root
beer. Again, he smiled at him. The boy was delighted! They sat there all afternoon eating and smiling, but they never said a word.

As it grew dark, the boy realized how tired he was and he got up to leave, but before he had gone more than a few steps, he turned
around, ran back to the old man, and gave him a hug. He gave him his biggest smile ever.

When the boy opened the door to his own house a short time later, his mother was surprised by the look of joy on his face. She
asked him, "What did you do today that made you so happy?"   "He replied, "I had lunch with God." But before his mother could
respond, he added, "You know what? He's got the most beautiful smile I've ever seen!"

Meanwhile, the old man, also radiant with joy, returned to his home. His son was stunned by the look of peace on his face and he
asked, "Dad, what did you do today that made you so happy?" He replied, "I ate Twinkies in the park with God." However, before his
son responded, he added, "You know, he's much younger than I expected."
Making Pancakes

Six-year-old Brandon decided one Saturday morning to fix his parents pancakes. He found a big bowl and spoon, pulled a chair to the counter,
opened the cupboard and pulled out the heavy flour canister, spilling it on the floor.

He scooped some of the flour into the bowl with his hands, mixed in most of a cup of milk and added some sugar, leaving a floury trail on the floor
which by now had a few tracks left by his kitten.

Brandon was covered with flour and getting frustrated. He wanted this to be something very good for Mom and Dad, but it was getting very bad.

He didn't know what to do next, whether to put it all into the oven or on the stove and he didn't know how the stove worked!. Suddenly he saw his
kitten licking from the bowl of mix and reached to push her away, knocking the egg carton to the floor. Frantically he tried to clean up this
monumental mess but slipped on the eggs, getting his pajamas white and sticky.

And just then he saw Dad standing at the door. Big crocodile tears welled up in Brandon's eyes. All he'd wanted to do was something good, but
he'd made a terrible mess. He was sure a scolding was coming, maybe even a spanking. But his father just watched him.

Then, walking through the mess, he picked up his crying son, hugged him and loved him, getting his own pajamas white and sticky in the process!

That's how God deals with us. We try to do something good in life, but it turns into a mess. Our marriage gets all sticky, we insult a friend, we can't
stand our job, or our health goes sour.

Sometimes we just stand there in tears because we can't think of anything else to do. That's when God picks us up and loves us and forgives us,
even though some of our mess gets all
over Him.

But just because we might mess up, we can't stop trying to "make pancakes" for God or for others. Sooner or later we'll get it right, and then they'll
be glad we tried...

Please pass some of this love on to others... suppose one morning you were called to God; do all your friends know you love them?

I was thinking. .. and I wondered if I had any wounds needing to be healed, friendships that need rekindling or three words needing to be said,
sometimes, "I love you" can heal & bless! Remind every one of your friends that you love them. Even if you think they don't love back, you would
be amazed at what those three little words, a smile, and a reminder like this can do.
Drug Problems

My Generation Just might be lucky?
I had a drug problem when I was young.
I was drug to church on Sunday mornings.
I was drug to church for weddings and funerals.
I was drug to family reunions no matter the weather.
I was drug to the bus stop to go to school every weekday.
I was drug by my ears when I was disrespectful to adults or
teachers.
I was also drug to the woodshed when I disobeyed my parents or
if I didn’t put forth my best effort in everything that was asked of
me.
I was drug out to mow the yard every week.
I was drug out to shovel snow from the driveway.
I was drug out to pull weeds in Mom’s garden and flowerbeds.
Those drugs are still in my veins; and they affect my behavior in
everything I do, say and think.
They are stronger than cocaine, crack, or heroin, and if today’s
children had this kind of drug problem, America might be a
better place today.
An Old, but grateful to my parents, Drug Addict
Dear GOD,
Instead of letting people die and having to make new ones, why
don't You just keep the ones You have?
-Amy
Dear GOD:
Maybe Cain and Abel would not kill each other so much if they
had their own rooms. It works with my brother.
-Larry
Dear GOD:
If You watch me in church on Sunday, I'll show You my new
shoes.
-Mickey
Dear GOD:
I bet it is very hard for You to love all of everybody in the whole
world. There are only 4 people in our family and I can never do
it.
-Nan
Dear GOD,
In school they told us what You do. Who does it when You are
on vacation?
-Jane
Dear GOD:
Are You really invisible or is it just a trick?
-Lucy
Dear GOD,
Is it true my father won't get in Heaven if he uses his bowling
words in the house?
-Anita
Dear GOD:
Did You mean for the giraffe to look like that or was it an
accident?
-Norma
Dear GOD,
Who draws the lines around the countries?
-Jan
Dear GOD,
I went to this wedding and they kissed right in church. Is that
okay?
-Neil
Dear GOD,
Did You really mean "do unto others as they do unto you"?
Because if You did, then I'm going to fix my brother.
-Darla
Dear GOD,
Thank you for the baby brother, but what I prayed for was a
puppy.
-Joyce
Dear GOD,
It rained for our whole vacation and is my father mad!
He said some things about You that people are not supposed to
say, but I hope You will not hurt him anyway.
Your friend, (But I am not going to tell You who I am)
Dear GOD,
Please send me a pony. I never asked for anything before.
You can look it up.
Bruce
Dear GOD,
My brother is a rat. You should give him a tail. Ha! Ha!
-Danny
Dear GOD,
I want to be just like my Daddy when I get big but not with so
much hair all over.
-Tom
Dear GOD,
You don't have to worry about me. I always look both ways.
-Dean
Dear GOD,
I think the stapler is one of your greatest inventions.
-Ruth M.
Dear GOD,
I think about You sometimes even when I'm not praying.
-Elliott
Dear GOD,
Of all the people who work for You I like Noah and David the
best.
-Rob
Dear GOD,
My brother told me about being born but it doesn't sound right.
He's just kidding, isn't he?
-Marsha
Dear GOD,
I would like to live 900 years like the guy in the Bible.
Love, Chris
Dear GOD,
We read Thomas Edison made light. But in Sunday school they
said You did it. So I bet he stole your idea.
Sincerely, Donna
Dear GOD,
The bad people laughed at Noah - "You made an ark on dry
land you fool."  But he was smart, he stuck with You. That's what
I would do.
-Eddie
Dear GOD,
I do not think anybody could be a better GOD. Well, I just want
you to know but I am not just saying that because You are GOD
already.
-Charles
Dear GOD,
I didn't think orange went with purple until I saw the sunset You
made on Tuesday.  That was cool.

Lightning Bugs

What is the deal with Lightning Bugs? I mean, here is a rather ordinary
looking flying insect, but wait…it has a glow-in-the-dark rear end!  What
was God thinking?
I’m sure science has all kinds of explanations about how this
fluorescent fanny is useful for mating and other stuff, but why did God
choose to make the lightning but glow?  I wonder if when God was creating
all the animals and everything around us, he came up with the idea of the
lightning bug and said, “The kids are gonna love this.”
We know God loves us enough to create all things we need to survive,
but does God love us so much He created some things just to make us
smile?  Just seeing Lightning bugs takes you back to those warm summer
nights of youth.  Running around the back yard with empty Mason jar,
racing toward the flashing lights all around.  Lightning bugs were as much
a part of summer as fireworks, fresh tomatoes, and big ice-cold slabs of
juicy watermelon. (There is also a theory of why got created watermelon
seeds the perfect size to spit, but that is another story.)
God created so much diversity in this world, much more than is needed
for mere survival.  He made all of this for us, and He wants us to enjoy it.
We can get so busy surrounding ourselves with man-made goods that we
don’t notice the living tapestry God has laid our all around us.  I guess
Lightening bugs do have a purpose after all.  They are a reminder of a
creative God who loves us so much; he’d even paint the rear end of a bug
just to see us smile.
A Penny

You always hear the usual stories of pennies on the sidewalk being
good luck, gifts from angels, etc. This is the first time I've ever
heard this twist on the story. Gives you something to think about.
Several years ago, a friend of mine and her husband were invited
to spend the weekend at the husband's employer's home. My
friend, Arlene, was nervous about the weekend. The boss was very
wealthy, with a fine home on the waterway, and cars costing more
than her house.

The first day and evening went well, and Arlene was delighted to
have this rare glimpse into how the very wealthy live. The
husband's employer was quite generous as a host, and took them
to the finest restaurants. Arlene knew she would never have the
opportunity to indulge in this kind of extravagance again, so was
enjoying herself immensely.
As the three of them were about to enter an exclusive restaurant
that evening, the boss was walking slightly ahead of Arlene and her
husband. He stopped suddenly, looking down on the pavement for
a long, silent moment.

Arlene wondered if she was supposed to pass him. There was
nothing on the ground except a single darkened penny that
someone had dropped, and a few cigarette butts. Still silent, the
man reached down and picked up the penny.

He held it up and smiled, then put it in his pocket as if he had found
a great treasure. How absurd! What need did this man have for a
single penny?  Why would he even take the time to stop and pick it
up?

Throughout dinner, the entire scene nagged at her. Finally, she
could stand it no longer. She causally mentioned that her daughter
once had a coin collection, and asked if the penny he had found
had been of some value.

A smile crept across the man's face as he reached into his pocket
for the penny and held it out for her to see. She had seen many
pennies before! What was the point of this?

"Look at it." He said. "Read what it says." She read the words
"United States of America."

"No, not that; read further."

"One cent?" "No, keep reading."

"In God we Trust?" "Yes!" "And?"

"And if I trust in God, the name of God is holy, even on a coin.
Whenever I find a coin I see that inscription. It is written on every
single United States coin, but we never seem to notice it! God
drops a message right in front of me telling me to trust Him? Who
am I to pass it by? When I see a coin, I pray, I stop to see if my trust
IS in God at that moment. I pick
the coin up as a response to God; that I do trust in Him. For a short
time, at least, I cherish it as if it were gold. I think it is God's way of
starting a conversation with me. Lucky for me, God is patient and
pennies are plentiful!

When I was out shopping today, I found a penny on the sidewalk. I
stopped and picked it up, and realized that I had been worrying and
fretting in my mind about things I cannot change. I read the words,
"In God We Trust," and had to laugh. Yes, God, I get the message.

It seems that I have been finding an inordinate number of pennies
in the last few months, but then, pennies are plentiful!

And, God is patient...
1000 Saturdays ...

The older I get, the more I enjoy Saturday mornings. Perhaps it's the quiet
solitude that comes with being the first to rise, or maybe it's the unbounded
joy of not having to be at work. Either way, the first few hours of a
Saturday morning are most enjoyable.

A few weeks ago, I was shuffling toward the kitchen with a steaming cup
of coffee in one hand and the morning paper in the other. What began as a
typical Saturday morning turned into one of those lessons that life seems
to hand you from time to time. Let me tell you about it.

I turned the volume up on my radio in order to listen to a Saturday morning
talk show. I heard an older sounding chap with a golden voice.
You know the kind, he sounded like he should be in the broadcasting
business himself.

He was talking about "a thousand marbles" to someone named "Tom." I was
intrigued and sat down to listen to what he had to say.

"Well, Tom, it sure sounds like you're busy with your job. I'm sure they
pay you well but it's a shame you have to be away from home and your
Family so much. Hard to believe a young fellow should have to work sixty
or seventy hours a week to make ends meet. Too bad you missed your
daughter's dance recital."

He continued, "Let me tell you something Tom, something that has helped
me keep a good perspective on my own priorities."

And that's when he began to explain his theory of a "thousand marbles."

"You see, I sat down one day and did a little arithmetic. The average person
lives about seventy-five years. I know, some live more and some live less,
but on average, folks live about seventy-five years."

"Now then, I multiplied 75 times 52 and I came up with 3900 which is the
number of Saturdays that the average person has in their entire lifetime.
Now stick with me Tom, I'm getting to the important part."

"It took me until I was fifty-five years old to think about all this in any
detail," he went on, "and by that time I had lived through over twenty-eight
hundred Saturdays. I got to thinking that if I lived to be seventy-five,
I only had about a thousand of them left to enjoy."

"So I went to a toy store and bought every single marble they had. I ended
up having to visit three toy stores to roundup 1000 marbles. I took them
home and put them inside of a large, clear plastic container right here in my
workshop next to the radio. Every Saturday since then, I have taken one
marble out and thrown it away."

"I found that by watching the marbles diminish, I focused more on the
really important things in life. There is nothing like watching your time
here on this earth run out to help get your priorities straight."

"Now let me tell you one last thing before I sign-off with you and take my
lovely wife out for breakfast. This morning, I took the very last marble out
of the container. I figure if I make it until next Saturday then God has
blessed me with a little extra time to be with my loved ones......

"It was nice to talk to you Tom, I hope you spend more time with your loved
ones, and I hope to meet you again someday. Have a good morning!"

You could have heard a pin drop when he finished. Even the show's
moderator didn't have anything to say for a few moments. I guess he gave
us all a lot to think about. I had planned to do some work that morning, and
then go to the gym. Instead, I went upstairs and woke my wife up with a
kiss. "C'mon honey, I'm taking you and the kids to breakfast."

"What brought this on?" she asked with a smile. "Oh, nothing special," I
said.  " It has just been a long time since we spent a Saturday together
with the kids. Hey, can we stop at a toy store while we're out?
I need to buy some marbles."
Did God create Evil?

At a certain college, there was a professor with a reputation for
being tough on Christians. At the first class every semester, he
asked if anyone was a Christian and proceeded to degrade them
and to mock their statement of faith. One semester, he asked
the question and a young man raised his hand when asked if
anyone was a Christian.

The professor asked, "Did God make everything, young man?" He
replied, "Yes sir He did!"

The professor responded, "If God made everything, then He made
evil." The student didn't have a response and the professor was
happy to have once again....proved the Christian faith to be a
myth.

Then another man raised his hand and asked, "May I ask you
something, sir?" "Yes, you may," responded the professor.

The young man stood up and said "Sir, is there such thing as cold?"

"Of course there is, what kind of question is that? Haven't you
ever been cold?" The young man replied, "Actually, sir, cold doesn't
exist. What we consider to be cold, is really an absence of heat.
Absolute zero is when there is absolutely no heat, but cold does
not really exist. We have only created that term to describe how
we feel when heat is not there." The young man continued, "Sir, is
there such a thing as dark?"

Once again, the professor responded "Of course there is." And
once again, the student replied "Actually, sir, darkness does not
exist. Darkness is really only the absence of light. Darkness is
only a term man developed to describe what happens when there
is no light present." Finally, the young man asked, "Sir, is there
such thing as evil?"

The professor responded, "Of course. We have rapes, and
murders and violence everywhere in the world, those things are
evil."

The student replied, "Actually, sir, evil does not exist. Evil is simply
the absence of God. Evil is a term man developed to describe the
absence of God. God did not create evil. It isn't like truth, or love,
which exist as virtues like heat or light. Evil is simply the state
where God is not present, like cold without heat or darkness
without light."

The professor had nothing to say............
GOD'S LITTLE PROMISES
A bowl of soup eaten with God's blessing is more satisfying than a
banquet without it.
"I have been young, and now am old; yet I have not seen the
righteous forsaken, nor his descendants begging bread." Psalm 37:25
36 SPIRITUAL WAYS TO REDUCE STRESS

An Angel says, "Never borrow from the future.  If you worry about what may happens tomorrow and it doesn't happen, you have worried in vain.
Even if it does happen, you have to worry twice."

   1. Pray
    2. Go to bed on time.
    3. Get up on time so you can start the day unrushed.
    4. Say No to projects that won't fit into your time schedule or that will compromise your mental health.
    5. Delegate tasks to capable others.
    6. Simplify and unclutter your life.
    7. Less is more. (Although one is often not enough, two are often too many.)
    8. Allow extra time to do things and to get to places.
    9. Pace yourself.  Spread out big changes and difficult projects over time; don't lump the hard things all together.
   10. Take one day at a time.
   11. Separate worries from concerns.  If a situation is a concern, find out what God would have you do and let go of the anxiety.  If you can't do
anything about a situation, forget it.
   12. Live within your budget; don't use credit cards for ordinary purchases.
   13. Have backups; an extra car key in your wallet, an extra house key buried in the garden, extra stamps, etc.
   14. K.M.S. (Keep Mouth Shut).  This single piece of advice can prevent an enormous amount of trouble.
   15. Do something for the Kid in You everyday.
   16. Carry a Bible with you to read while waiting in line.
   17. Get enough rest.
   18. Eat right.
   19. Get organized so everything has its place.
   20. Listen to a tape while driving that can help improve your quality of life.
   21. Write down thoughts and inspirations.
   22. Every day, find time to be alone.
   23. Having problems?  Talk to God on the spot.  Try to nip small problems in the bud.  Don't wait until it's time to go to bed to try and pray.
   24. Make friends with Godly people.
   25. Keep a folder of favorite scriptures on hand.
   26. Remember that the shortest bridge between despair and hope is often a good "Thank you Jesus."
   27. Laugh.
   28. Laugh some more!
   29. Take your work seriously, but not yourself at all.
   30. Develop a forgiving attitude (most people are doing the best they can).
   31. Be kind to unkind people (they probably need it the most.
   32. Sit on your ego.
   33. Talk less; listen more.
   34. Slow down.
   35. Remind yourself that you are not the general manager of the universe
36 . Every night before bed, think of one thing you're grateful for that you've never been grateful for before.  GOD HAS A WAY OF TURNING
THINGS AROUND FOR YOU.  "If God is for us, who can be against us?" (Romans 8:31)
